When The Gods Wish To Punish Us, They Answer Our Prayers

This quote was at the beginning of the new movie “Mr. Harrington’s Phone”. The main character is being bullied at school. His old friend Mr. Harrington dies and he calls him on his cell phone and asks him to get rid of the bully.

Mr. Harrington does. I won’t reveal any more spoilers but the movie is the perfect example of being careful what you wish for. You never know what consequences are around the next corner.

More examples- Someone wins the lottery but then goes bankrupt. Someone wins a vacation but dies on their trip. Sometimes wishing for something and then it comes true, can have disastrous effects.

The quote in the title comes from the Oscar Wilde play, “An Ideal Husband”.

Oscar Wilde’s social comedy, An Ideal Husband, has charmed and challenged audiences since its glamorous London opening in 1895, which the Prince of Wales attended. When a prominent politician is blackmailed over a youthful indiscretion, society is forced to examine whether idealized notions of goodness and morality serve to uphold society or become tools of destruction. Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) was an Irish playwright, poet, and novelist, known for The Importance of Being Earnest, Lady Windermere’s Fan, An Ideal Husband, and the iconic novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Oscar Wilde had the right idea to be careful what you ask for. Because sometimes someone will be listening.

I will give you a simple example, that didn’t make sense to me at the time and still doesn’t make sense. This could be chalked up to coincidence but it was strange.
