The “Summer Cold” Everyone Is Getting Is Straight Up Covid. And I Know Because I Just Had It.

I have been sick for the past week. With a mysterious “cold”. But I have a sneaking suspicion it's Covid.

As a child, I was never sick during the warm weather months. I had pretty persistent asthma (still do) and was always sicker in the winter.

I remember being active, hanging out with friends, and riding bikes from May-Sept, never getting a cold. None of my friends were sick. It seemed none of us got sick until we went back to school in the fall.

Now, I am in my mid-40s and seeing a strange phenomenon play out in my own family.

I have been wearing N95 since 2020 and avoid people as much as I can. But nothing is foolproof. Especially after my son went to an indoor family gathering, unmasked, even after I asked him not to.

He hadn’t seen most of the extended family since 2019. So after realizing he is over 18 and he has a car, I gave up. He is home from school right now and I can’t tell him where to go, or what to do. For the most part, he has stayed home, so I am grateful for that.
