Stop Leaving People on Read — It’s Rude, Unprofessional, and Disrespectful
I’m running into a frustrating issue with an acquaintance I’m working with on a professional project. She has a habit of leaving my texts on read for hours — or not responding at all. I try not to bother her and only reach out when necessary. But even then, she’ll sometimes take 12 hours (or more) to reply. And that’s if she replies at all.
From what I know about her life, she’s a freelancer who works from home. She has no kids or partner. She’s not juggling multiple jobs. In other words — she’s not that busy. And yet, when I meet her in person, she has her iPhone in hand, checking it every five minutes. So when she says, “I’m not good at responding to messages,” I know she’s lying.
Let’s be honest: we all know these lies.
- “I didn’t see it.”
- “I lost service.”
- “I meant to respond but forgot.”
- “I’m not great with my phone.”
These are the lamest excuses of modern communication — and sadly, widely accepted.
