PSA: Please Stop Giving Spoiled Brat Adult Relatives Expensive Gifts
It’s Just Too Much
My son tends to be a very generous person. In fact, he is too generous.
So the other day, he told me he was going to gift his 50-year-old uncle an Xbox. The $400 Xbox.
His uncle makes a good salary and just came back from a 10 day vacation. I don’t think he needs help buying an Xbox.
I was just stunned and shocked. The most I would spend on the in-laws would be $100 each. Not $400 each. I know my son is excited about getting his first real job after college and wants to spend some money.
I get that, but why can’t he just get his uncle and new bride a really nice wedding gift in a few months? And spend the rest on toys and food for the homeless animals at the local APL?
This is where the gifting part of the holidays has gotten out of control.
Adults with good jobs do not need expensive gifts. I was brought up that only the children in the family got gifts. Not adults.
Just last year I tried to end the gift-giving charade with the in-laws. And my mother-in-law had a fit.
