One and Done: My Only Child in Their 20s Turned Out Great Despite Old Wives’ Tales

When my son was born over 20 years ago, the comments started.

“When are you having another?”

“Your son needs a brother or sister!”

Then five years in…

“You will have too big of an age gap between siblings.”

“Your son wants to be a big brother!”

Then ten years in…

“You are too old now to have kids!”

“I guess your son will never have a sibling!”

Well, unfortunately, it was just not in the cards for me. After a series of health problems, it just did not happen. Now I am in my mid 40’s, my son just graduated college and it definitely isn’t happening now.

As a matter of fact, I am closer to becoming a mother in law and/or grandma!
