My Gen Z Niece Was a Bad Houseguest. Here Are The Rules I Wish She Had Followed.
It’s summertime and it’s also time for overnight guests. We live near a fun tourist town and get requests to stay overnight on occasion. We run a pretty laidback home but there are rules to follow for guests. Even if they are family, following certain rules is always polite.
My niece Tiffany and her friend recently visited and we had some issues. So here are the rules for Gen Z and all generations to follow.
LIMIT YOUR STAY
As Ben Franklin said, “guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days”. Sometimes family can take family members for granted. They may think a 5–7 day or longer stay is acceptable. But it’s important to keep in mind that people have their own routines. When they have a guest(s) in their home, their routine can be completely turned on its head.
So limit your stay.
DON’T EXPECT PEOPLE TO GET YOU FROM THE AIRPORT
That’s what Uber is for! I have taken and picked up people from the airport for many years. The airport can be very annoying. If they haven’t offered, don’t assume they will get you at the airport. Tiffany and her friend called me at the last minute and I picked them up at 10 pm.
