My Gen Z Cousin Kayleigh Grew Up Rich, Lost Her Money, and Now Works at Starbucks

It’s a tale as old as time. Rich girl grows up, the family loses their wealth and rich girl has to go to work.

Kayleigh was born in 2000 with a silver spoon in her mouth. She grew up in a big house in an exclusive suburb in Texas. For 20 years, she had everything she could want. Trips to Disney, designer clothing even as a child, boarding school, and more.

We would visit them once a year and even with all her money, she still had manners. But she never realized how rich she and her parents were.

She loved to say “It’s my parent's money, not mine.” But let’s be honest, it’s their family money.

When Covid hit in 2020, her father’s business tanked. As their loans were called in and their income went down, her father took her aside and said the dreaded words, “It’s time to get a job.”

Kayleigh was beyond upset. She had just graduated high school and was all set to go to an exclusive university in the east.

Her father told her she could still go to university but she also had to work.
