Life Is Short- That’s Why My Christmas Tree Went Up Nov.15

I’m Team Celebrate The Holidays Early

I think it started around 2020. That year, with 1 million people dying from Covid and it being the worst year on record, it showed that life is short.

Before 2020, I always waited until the day after Thanksgiving to put up the tree. No longer! My son is in college, and he’s only home a short time for Thanksgiving and then longer for Christmas.

I want to enjoy the season as long as I can. We have all been through hell and back these three years and we need to find happiness wherever we can.

I am not alone in this sentiment either. Scary Mommy just posted an article about starting the season early too-

According to the author:

My friends and family made fun of me, reminding me it wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet — something I was already well aware of — and told me it was too soon. Too soon for what? Peace, love, and joy? Too soon for holiday cheer and looking at your Christmas tree as you sip your hot cocoa? Too soon to feel some of the magic I loved as a child? Too soon to do something that lifts my spirits up as nothing else can? I don’t think so. It’s never too soon to spark those kinds of feelings. And so I’m still at it, years later.

My in-laws and mom are the opposite. My mom always waits until after Thanksgiving to put up her tree. The same with my in-laws who go more toward the beginning of December and then keep up the tree until way into January. I personally make sure the tree is down by Jan.1st.

As for outdoor decorations, in this midwestern climate, we have to put them up before Thanksgiving. Because we are usually guaranteed a big snowstorm before Thanksgiving every year, and no one wants to work outside hanging lights in the bitter cold.
