Life In 2023 Is Very Messy- And So Are Our Homes

Whether you live alone or coupled up, kids or no kids, homes get messy. A 2023 home is more chaotic than 10 years ago and guess what? It’s ok!

I do as much housecleaning as I have always needed to. And my house is in good shape. While my son was growing up, keeping the house clean was a full-time job. It was a losing battle. My son was like a tornado going through the house, throwing LEGOs and Playdoh everywhere.

My mother-in-law would visit and look aghast at the mess. But I knew something she had forgotten. The years of my kid being a kid were fleeting. She would advise me to encourage him to pick up his toys every night. He never did, even with my encouragement. I would trail behind him, cleaning up the mess.

It was hard at the time but I knew someday he would grow up. Grow out of LEGOs, Geo Trax, and riding his bike.

He is now 6'3 and lives several hours away. I don’t get to see him that often. And I don’t think back on memories of having a perfectly clean home. I think back on happy memories with my son.
