Letters From The Time Traveler: The Man With Nothing To Lose

Dearest,

I miss the safety of our farm in 1854. Traveling has its own dangers. But none so insidious as spontaneous mass shootings.

It is endless and on a daily basis. Some of the shootings have no rhyme or reason. A man (99% of the time with nothing to lose), goes on a shooting spree with semi-automatic weapons. They take out people just going about their daily lives like school, grocery shopping, at the bank, nightclub, etc.

When I talk with people in this time, they think this is a recent phenomenon. It is not. If only I could tell them! But I can talk about it here, how the first mass shooting was back in 1949, over 75 years ago.

There have always been unhinged people. The difference now is their access to semi-automatic weaponry. And they have nothing to lose. Those with nothing to lose are the most dangerous people on the planet.

Americans tend to be more volatile. I have lived in different countries and nowhere but here have I seen the level of anger and despair that exists in modern America.

It is sad. It breaks my heart. I remember a more docile America. Bad things happened but not on the level it happens now.
