Our society is filled with spoiled Marie Antoinettes.
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was the 15th and second to last child of Maria Theresa, empress of Austria, and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. She lived a relatively carefree childhood. Marie Antoinette’s education was typical of an 18th-century aristocratic girl.
Marie Antoinette and Louis-Auguste were married on May 16, 1770. During this time, the French government was entering into financial turmoil and poor harvests were driving up grain prices across the country. Marie Antoinette’s extravagant lifestyle made a mockery of the poor.
At some point in 1789, after being told that the French population was facing a bread shortage, because of the poor crop harvest and the rodents, and as a result, was starving. Marie Antoinette was known as “Madame Déficit because the country’s financial crisis was blamed on her lavish spending and her opposition to the social and financial reforms.
