It’s Not All Cash and Freebies: The Dark Side of Being an Influencer

For over 20 years, I was an influencer. And it was harder than it sounds.

Many Gen Z kids, including some of my son’s friends, want to be influencers. They think the job is fun and easy.

Some aspects are easy and who doesn’t love free products? I worked with many national companies like Proctor and Gamble, Disney, Hasbro, Kraft Foods, Hershey’s, Coca Cola and more. Being paid to try out new products was exciting. Almost every day I would have a new box of free products showing up at my door. I was given free park tickets, free hotel stays, and more. I even met a few celebrities like Michael Symon. This superstar chef is very nice in person!

My family and friends loved my job too because they reaped tons of free stuff, tickets to events, and more. Some of them would even ask me how to become an influencer/blogger. I would give them some advice. One piece of advice being you have to have the right kind of personality and like putting yourself and your life out there.
