I’m Tapped Out on Trauma

Covid. The country split. Politics. People out of work. Inflation. Supply shortages. Ukraine and Russia.

I’ve talked about my ancestry before. I speak more about my English side but I am 1/4 Ukrainian. I’m not a political or history expert but I know Ukraine has had a long, sad history of conflict with Russia.

My ancestors, a little over 100 years ago, came here to start a new life. Now as their descendant, I am very sad to see what’s happening with a possible war.

But I can’t cry. All my tears have been maxed out for the past 2 years.

This tweet stopped me in my tracks. Have we as a society lost our ability to be empathetic? Or are we just damn tired?

I consider myself an empath, meaning a very empathetic person. I am not able to put on blinders, like some people in my life, and ignore what’s going on around me.

That’s one reason I think Medium is so important to me. To be able to talk with others, some who think like me, but also others who challenge me to see the other side of issues.
