How I Survived the Disney Trip From Hell With My In-Laws

Years ago, we brought my mother-in-law to Disney World. And paid her way. What was I thinking? I don’t know.

I was young and dumb, only 28 and my son was 3 years old. It was his first trip to Disney.

My husband had sold it as a chance for us to get some free babysitting. It did not turn out like that. At all.

I was a young mom who needed some help. And I believed my mother-in-law would just be an extra pair of hands. And not need help herself.

At the time she was only 55 years old and in pretty good shape. She said she could handle all the walking. For anyone who has gone to Disney, it is a lot of walking. If you pick the wrong time of year, you also have to walk in the heat and humidity of Florida, which is not easy.

We decided to travel in January, which is pretty low humidity. My mother-in-law is one of those toxic positive people. I’m the opposite. I like to call myself a realist.
