Have Yourself a Covid Little Christmas

Clip art family, not my family pictured

It’s been two years and the second holiday season dodging Covid.

Here in Ohio, we are at 9000/cases a day, with Omicron on the horizon, as the first case was just reported in a vaccinated person in CA.

In simple terms, the country is screwed. We are looking at a hard winter.

I try to be a positive person but not when it comes to this pandemic.

And here is my dilemma. My extended family is super desperate to pretend the pandemic is over. One of my relatives wants to have a family get-together during the month of December. This is with one relative who has already been Covid hospitalized, another has Type 1 diabetes and not in good shape, most are overweight and have underlying health problems, the list goes on. And most are not vaccinated.

My extended family, including me, should be hiding under the couch at this point. I do stay home most of the time. When I venture out, it’s wearing a N95 mask.

Their thinking goes “I’m vaccinated, it’s mild then.”. Mild my ass. I have read about what “mild” cases are like and they are not fun. And how does anyone have the guarantee they won’t have to be hospitalized? I think I married into a psychic family or something because they are pretty damn self-assured about the future.
