Iremember when I graduated college I was super broke. I did not even have a job lined up. I decided to have a party for myself (which is kind of sad) and set up a table in my small apartment with snacks.

My family drove almost 2 hours to celebrate with me and we had a really good time. All that mattered to me was that they were there to celebrate that day. Later, my grandmother had another small family party for me.

For me, getting through college was hard with dealing with my parent’s divorce and other issues. It was a big accomplishment for me.

I didn’t get tons of cash and gifts but I did get their support, which is worth a lot more. My aunt and uncle helped me move out of my apartment and to Ohio a few weeks later. That itself was a huge help.

Now 25 years later, my son has graduated. And we have a new issue cropping up…

It’s Not About The Bling. It’s About the Acknowledgment.

My son just graduated college and we are so proud of him. We had an amazing graduation day. He’s been home for a few weeks now and is looking for a job. He is working some side hustles like Doordash in the meantime.

However, as life is, we have a lot of other things going on at the same time. My mom needs us to visit and move her to an apartment. The problem is she lives halfway across the country. So there’s a lot of planning going into that, because she doesn’t exactly live around the corner.

For right now, we have decided not to have a graduation party. And this is not being well received at all. Of course, my mother-in-law is upset. I understand that, especially when my son did not have a graduation party in 2020 (because of Covid).

I have extensively discussed a party with my son but he wants to focus on getting a job and moving. He wants to put his money into that, not into feeding 100…
