Frito Lay, Nabisco, Diet Coke, and 10+ Brands I Always Pay More For
And Who Sells The Best Generics
Growing up, my mom was a bargain shopper and loved buying generic brands, shopping sales, and checking out yard sales every weekend.
As I got older, I noticed that some of the more snobby kids in my class would make fun of the kids who brought the generic brand in their lunchboxes. Or if they didn’t have cool clothes like Guess jeans or Esprit. Looking back it was ridiculous that so many kids were so brand-conscious. I guess it was the 80’s and we were all bombarded with ads during Saturday morning cartoons.
Generic food especially had some kind of stigma around it. The “rich kids” in my school had all brand news in their cupboards and their moms did not use coupons. My mom shopped at the day-old bread store, and the local deli, and also got canned food from my grandmother. She wasn’t looking to impress anyone. She also was a coupon clipper before it was trendy.
