Dear Mother-in-law: No, You Can’t Rearrange My Home While I Am on Vacation

Many years ago, we decided to go to Disney World. It was my son’s first trip. We decided to trust my mother-in-law to watch the house. We also let her borrow my husband’s truck.

Well, you can probably guess what happened. It did not go well.

I was a dumb, naive 30-year-old. My parents lived 9 hours away and I had no one else to housesit. So when we decided to trust her, it was out of necessity.

But if I could go back in time, I would have never let her “help” us.

When we moved in the house, my son was an infant. My time and focus was on him, not on decorating or arranging furniture etc. But I thought I had done a good job. Apparently, my mother-in-law did not.

Once the plane took off, MIL was off to the races. Apparently, while we were gone, she rearranged my entire living room and kitchen to how she thought it should look.

She welcomed us home with an overcooked roast and a truck with no gas in it.

When We Walked In The House…

I had no idea she had done anything to my home. I was brought up to not even move a coaster in someone’s home, much less bring in a rocking chair and move the couch.
