The Loveland Castle origin story is as strange as the building itself.

Harry Andrews, a WWI soldier was stricken with meningitis in the Camp Dix camp. He did not make it and was pronounced dead.

His body was marked deceased and he was sent to the morgue. For all intents and purposes, Harry was dead. But then when they went to take some samples, something curious happened.

One of the military doctors, Dr. Smith, one of the most brilliant doctors of the time, about a new adrenaline therapy to restore one’s heartbeat.

The doctors decided to try the therapy on Harry. What did they have to lose? Harry was declared clinically dead. They punctured Harry’s heart and by some miracle, Harry’s heart began to beat again. He was literally brought back from the dead.

Even though he survived, he was blind and paralyzed. No one thought he would be able to survive or even live a normal life again. He eventually got his vision back and was able to walk again.

Harry’s survival had a ripple effect. They took his blood to obtain the meningococcus antibodies and it turned into a life-saving serum for other soldiers. Only one other…
