My family has a very weird thing, going back generations. They like to acquire land and then just keep passing it down. It took my uncle 10 years to even sell my grandparent’s home. During that time, he let my aunt live there rent-free. My second cousin owns his dad’s house but rents it out and lives with a friend.

Yes, helping people is a good thing but it’s also become a bad thing. My family has gone through many legal disputes, among themselves, because of property. And money.

It all seemed to start with my great-grandfather Chas (who was clearly not a Boomer or even Silent Generation, he was born in 1893) lived high on a hill, overlooking acres of land. He also sat high on a pile of money. He was born in 1893 and lived to a rip old age of 101.

He owned a dairy farm and was a Freemason. He was successful in his community and always preached hard work.

Some of the family was not as industrious as him. And some felt entitled to his money.
