20+ Ways to Declutter The Stuff You Don’t Need Anymore
4 min readJan 23, 2024
I have been decluttering and organizing this winter. It is a good way to pass the time when it’s 20 degrees out.
I’ve been getting rid of things like:
- Shoes that hurt. I just got rid of several pairs of Nine West shoes from 1998. Yes, I hung onto them that long. I realized I was never going to wear them.
- Old Perfume. I love it when Ulta has its free perfume sample deal and I have a lot of different kinds of scents. But if they are over 5 years old the scent at that point wasn’t strong.
- Bridesmaid dresses. I kept the dress from my sister’s wedding for over 10 years. Time to go! It got donated.
- Unmatched socks. I think the dryer just eats socks at this point. There was no point in holding onto them anymore.
- Ketchup and condiment packets. I had a big collection going but then realized how do I know if they are even expired?
- CD’s and videotapes. I have a bunch of CDs and videotapes from the 1990’s and early 2000’s. I have not used them in over 10 years. I donated all of them.
- Expired spices. I was told growing up that spices last forever. Then I learned, they do not!
