When I was in college, I got my apartment senior year. I did not have a roommate to split rent, so I worked 40 hours a week. I also drove a local college student back and forth to school for $20/ride (this was the 1990's).
Any odd jobs that came up on the bulletin board in the student union, I was always game to try. One summer I set up the chairs for the graduation ceremony on the campus green. Another summer I worked overnight housekeeping, cleaning the academic buildings.
