10+ Unwritten Rules Of My Home
2 min readAug 22, 2024
Every home has their own rules. Here are some of my family follows:
- Wash your hands when you get home! There are so many germs outside!
- Take off your shoes at the door.
- When you’re sitting down, and you’ve misplaced something small (phone, remote control, etc.), you must get up and check before asking others if they have been it.
- If you have a cat on your lap and want something from another room, someone else has to get it for you. The cat can’t be moved!
- We love board games. The winner of a board game is charged with putting the game away.
- If someone is voluntarily doing a chore, unsolicited advice is not needed. If it’s given, the task then belongs to the giver of the unwanted advice.
- Replacing the trash bag IS PART OF taking out the trash.
- If the dog has an accident, whoever spots it first cleans it up.
- Whoever hears the strange noise at night must go check it out. Ghost or not, you never know!
- Clean the kitchen as you cook. Pots get soaked and dishes get loaded in the dishwasher as you cook. This is an especially helpful tip during the holidays.
- Give others in your household a heads up if you invite someone over. Like a few hours. I especially don’t like last minute gests.
- If you are invited to someone’s home for the holidays, don’t assume they won’t mind another guest tagging along. Ask ahead of time.
- Replace the toilet paper roll, make sure the dryer is empty.
- If you make a mess, clean it up.
